35, Still Alive

I turned 35 a couple weeks ago, and that means that my time as a "youth" is coming to an end.

Other than the shitshow that is COVID and the start of WW3 🙄, the first half of my 30s has been a wild ride that has been incredibly challenging but equally rewarding!

I became a "Home From Away" and moved back to Labrador from Montréal after 11 years at the end of 2020.

I joined the Social Justice Co-op of Newfoundland and Labrador and connected with values-aligned allies across NL.

I got an ADHD diagnosis that has helped me better understand myself and the challenges and gifts it brings.

I moved to Corner Brook, and started to build a new community of incredible people here.

I got a job with techNL that allowed me to help thousands of people in NL access technology skills training and catalyze my cross-province community network.

I attended my first Foray with Foray NL and joined their board to support their citizen science work with my technology experience.

Colin Corcoran, CPA, CMA ( 🙏 ) let me into the the Community Ideas Festival where I met the folks at Collective Interchange that gave me my first opportunity to use the Community Engine to support their community project, Newcomer Navigator NL (https://lnkd.in/epW-vKw6).

I then left techNL to dedicate myself to working full-time on the Community Engine (https://lnkd.in/etsDayqH), and was elected to the board of Newfoundland-Labrador Federation of Co-operatives, where I am grateful to have served for almost 2 years now.

Jamie Keeble in my local Corner Brook community connected me with Nigel P. Jenkins at Laughing Heart Music Ltd. who gave me the opportunity to launch the 2nd Community Engine project, NL Venues (https://nlvenues.com).

Now, I am working with my community to co-found NL's first community technology co-operative through the support of the Community Sector Council NL's SETA program to steward the Community Engine and provide safe and trusted local technology support to Activists, Co-ops, Community Groups, Non-Profits, Municipalities, and Unions.

I'm incredibly grateful to be a part of Co-operatives and Mutuals Canada - Coopératives et mutuelles Canada youth committee Canada's Emerging Co-operators / Coopérateur·rices émergent·es du Canada and to play my part in the Canadian co-operative movement.

As I age-out of membership in CEC, I look forward to continuing to serve my community as part of the co-operative and social justice movements. Keep an eye out for our community of practice on youth in co-operation!
